Reading Time: < 1 minute

Embattled Emfuleni mayor Simon Mofokeng has failed to appear before the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates court after he was slapped with a restraining order following allegations of sexual grooming of a 14-year-old girl.

His lawyer claims that Mofokeng, who the ANC has placed on special leave, was given the wrong date and could not appear in court.

Mofokeng has been accused of sexually grooming a young girl.

Soon after the allegations surfaced, its alleged that Mofokeng allegedly harassed the victim. This prompted the girl’s parents to approach the court and obtaining a restraining order against him.

The police confirmed that this order was served on Mofokeng.

Mofokeng who’s been placed on special leave by the ANC in Gauteng was not present in court. His lawyer says there was an administrative error, and his client was given a wrong court date. The case has been postponed to the 28th of this month.
