The Free State African National Congress PEC has suspended the Dihlabeng Municipal Mayor Lindiwe Makhalema. This emerged during a special PEC meeting in Bethlehem earlier on Thursday.

Makhalema’s suspension follows her Facebook post in which she called President Cyril Ramaphosa a sell-out.

Makhalema is also a PEC additional member.  “Her participation in the ANC structures will be suspended for now pending disciplinary processes.

We have appreciated that in her own accord she will then take a leave from the municipality activities,” says ANC provincial spokesperson Thabo Meeko.

The ANC this week has condemned the insults directed to its president Cyril Ramaphosa by one of its members in the social media platform.

The party says it is possible to express viewpoints without resorting to personal attacks and insults. Meeko says the party will take harsh action against Makhalema for using inflammatory language.
