Transport Minister Joe Maswanganyi has called on all striking members of the National Taxi Alliance to demonstrate peacefully and avoid disruptions.

This comes after taxi operators affiliated to the alliance organised a national march to the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Wednesday.

Their grievances include challenges to the taxi industry such as subsidies‚ dedicated taxi lanes‚ the registration of taxi-operators and Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences.

Transport spokesperson Ishmael Mnisi says it is important that those participating in the protest should refrain from any form of intimidation and destruction of property.

“Marchers should avoid making inflammatory statements or provocative actions that could incite violence. Conveners of the protest should, together with their marchers cooperate with law enforcement agencies that will be deployed to serve and protect all citizens and property,” says Mnisi.
