Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Marikana report was handed over to the Presidency on Tuesday. But should it be made public?

Head of Governance, Crime and Justice at the ISS, Gareth Newham, thinks that the release of the report by the Farlam Commission of Inquiry to the public will help bring closure to the victims and their families, and it is in the interest of South Africans to know what happened that day. The commission led by Judge Ian Farlam investigated the violence that led to the deaths of 44 people during the 2012 unprotected wage strikes at the world’s third largest platinum producer, Lonmin near Rustenburg in North West. The interview was done by Digital News’ Nthabi Thipa-Gwiji.
