The trial of Sandile Mantsoe who is accused of murdering his girlfriend Karabo Mokoena, will on Monday resume in the High Court in Johannesburg.

Twenty seven-year-old Mantsoe has been charged with Mokoena’s premeditated murder.

The deceased’s charred remains were found in an open veld in Lyndhurst, Johannesburg in April last year.

The matter had been postponed to allow both the defence and the state enough time to prepare.

This comes after the emergence of new information that needs to be brought before court.

The accused has also reportedly been charged with assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm for allegedly assaulting Mokoena a month before her death.

The 27-year-old father of three had been in a romantic relationship with Mokoena since late 2016.

He has denied killing Mokoena, but during the bail application he told the court that he disposed of her body after he went home and found that she had committed suicide.

Mantsoe’s legal team told the court that he intendes to oppose an application from the media to record the proceedings.

Nineteen witnesses are expected to to testify in the trial.
