Mineral Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe has reiterated that mining communities should avoid tribalism in the mining sector.
Speaking at a mining consultative meeting with stakeholders in Welkom, Gwede Mantashe says the meeting aims to minimise the gap of inequality and benefits in the mining industry.
Minister Mantashe says there have been positive engagements with stakeholders and the talks are a step in the right direction.
Mantashe says:”Mining must benefit people, equality is something else. You reduce the inequalities’. If benefits are good to the communities inequality will be reduced.”
Stakeholders and the community members hope their issues will be addressed.
The minister says they will speed up the mining charter conversation outcome after extensive discussions in all provinces.
