Mandla ‘Spaceboy’ Maseko funeral service under way

The funeral service of the aspirant astronaut, Mandla Maseko, is currently under way in his hometown in Soshanguve in Pretoria.

The 30-year-old was set to become the first black African in space after beating beat one million people in 2014 to become one of 23 people to win a seat sponsored by the Axe Apollo Space Academy.

He died in a motorbike accident last Saturday.

Members of the South African Airforce are among the mourners attending the funeral service.

The memorial service for Maseko was held on Wednesday at Airforce Base in Swartkop in Pretoria.
