A 49-year-old man is due to appear in the Klawer Magistrate’s Court on the West Coast Monday on charges of possessing protected wildlife to the value of over R700 000.
He was arrested by Vredendal police near the Northern Cape border after a high speed car chase.
Western Cape police spokesperson, FC van Wyk says a high speed chase ensued and the vehicle was eventually stopped in Bitterfontein in Nuwerus.
“The suspect was arrested and upon searching his vehicle, 48 Armadillo Girdled Lizards to the value of R720 000 were found in the car,” says van Wyk.
