The Recording Industry of South Africa (RISA) says they are shocked at the death of Afro-pop legend Robbie Malinga. 49 year old Malinga died on Monday after being ill for some time.
Malinga was admitted to hospital in June after being diagnosed with anaemia. Tributes have been pouring in for Malinga and on Twitter the #RIPRobbieMalinga has been trending since his passing.
“I couldn’t believe that we lost yet another legend, another icon as the music industry. We all know the influence that Robbie had from Kelly Khumalo right through to Zahara to back in the days in fact of bubble gum music and Robbie has played an influential role.
“In his very young life he has touched many lives in a very positive way. It is truly a sad loss to the recording industry and to the music industry in general. I want to say rest in peace Robbie Malinga and we wish the family the strength from God to survive this tragic event,” says RISA Chief Executive Officer Nhlanhla Sibisi.
Family and friends of Afro-pop singer say they are struggling to come to terms with his death. Tributes are pouring in on social media for Malinga.
