Reading Time: < 1 minute

Leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Julius Malema says it’s time to vote for economic freedom because political freedom has failed to get people out of poverty.

Malema was speaking during a rally in Barkley West in the Northern Cape where he was gunning for support ahead of the May 8 elections.

The EFF leader embarked on a door-to-door campaign, where he witnessed dilapidated shacks and houses.

Residents told him about their struggle, saying that when it rains their homes get soaked in and roads inaccessible.

Malema promised Barkley West residents better housing which the current government has failed to provide.

“We are going to build proper houses all over Northern Cape. The so-called RDP democratic houses are collapsing. That is how this government, and its houses, is prepared to kill our people. We have voted for political freedom since 1994, till today, we have nothing to show.”
