Malema lambasts South Africans of Indian descent

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) leader Julius Malema has launched a tirade against South Africans of Indian descent claiming that many of them are racist.

Malema was addressing a Youth Day event in Klerksdorp in the North West.

The EFF leader argued strongly for black people to uplift themselves in the spirit of Black Consciousness.

Malema then went on to defend EFF Chief Whip Floyd Shivambu’s recent verbal attack on Treasury Deputy Director General, Ismael Momoniat.

He said the EFF Chief Whip had been making a valid point about an “Indian” representing Treasury in parliamentary meetings, when 80% of Treasury staff are black Africans.

Malema later in his speech had a warning for journalists of Indian descent.

Shivambu was criticised in some circles for his comments about Momoniat more than a week ago.

Parliament’s Standing Committee of Finance released a statement condemning Shivambu’s  comments, saying criticisms of Momoniat are based on racial grounds.

Shivambu sits on the committee. He strongly objected to the statement saying he was pointing out that Momoniat was undermining African leadership in Treasury.
