Malema accused of using ‘free education’ to score political points

Higher Education Minister Hlengiwe Mkhize has accused Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema of using President Jacob Zuma‘s announcement on free higher education to score political points.

This comes after Malema encouraged students to show up at universities to register.

Mkhize says this has the potential to cause confusion and chaos.

She has again warned prospective students not to go to universities to try and register if they have not secured their admission yet.

“University admission is based on criteria of what you want to do. So this notion that people must just pack and go with their suitcases at the gates of universities that’s a chaos, it’s not really an entrance to university. It’s just a political statement because there is no way in which anyone can just walk into an institution of higher learning and expect any assistance. Remember faculties they sit and approve students who qualify,” says Mkhize.
