Gauteng Premier David Makhura says he wants to reduce crime in the province by 50%. Makhura together with law enforcement agencies on Thursday conducted raids in Dobsonville, Soweto, in an effort to get rid of drugs, illegal firearms and illegal trading.

About 12 people have been arrested for various offences. Makhura says raids will continue indefinitely.

“This operation will continue, it has no time-frame. Our target is to reduce crime by 50% in the top priority clusters and precincts in communities where we have the highest crime rate related to drugs, murder, robbery and gender based violence and illegal trading.”
