Maimane laments ‘delays’ in De Lille matter

Democratic Alliance (DA) leader, Mmusi Maimane says it is regrettable that the dispute over Patricia De Lille’s position as Cape Town mayor has become a protracted affair.

The DA’s disciplinary Fedex has terminated De Lille’s party membership. This after the DA caucus in the Cape Town city council passed a vote of no confidence in her.

Maimane says when a caucus tells a leader that it has lost confidence in them, that leader must do the right thing and resign.

“But at the end of the day we should all recognise nobody in the DA is above the party. We all serve the DA and when we lose confidence, we should do the right thing. We as a party believe, we have taken steps to ensure that everybody is held accountable.”

“It doesn’t matter whether you are vote winner or a vote loser. We are all equal before the law. And if we didn’t do that our principles would not mean anything to us and we must uphold them,” says Maimane.
