Hopes that former Gauteng Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu will testify at the Life Esidimeni Arbitration hearings have increased with unconfirmed reports that she has been suspended by the institution in the UK where she has been studying.

The University of Bedfordshire is quoted by a local newspaper as saying the Global School of Banking, which is affiliated to it, has suspended Mahlangu from MBA studies because of the severity of the allegations against her in South Africa.  It’s not been possible to confirm the reports with the two institution in the UK so far.

The Life Esidimeni Arbitration hearings into the deaths of 141 mentally ill patients are to resume in Parktown, Johannesburg on Wednesday. Mahlangu, who was MEC for Health when the deaths took place, has been sub-poena’d to appear before the hearings next month.
