Reading Time: 2 minutes

The funeral of the late ANC stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela will be held in Fourways, north of Johannesburg, on Saturday April the 14th. Her family has confirmed the arrangement.

The 81-year-old struggle icon passed away in Johannesburg on Monday. Themba Matatheni spoke to reporters on behalf of the Madikizela- Mandela family.

Meanwhile, Mama Winnie Madikizela’s brother says her children should decide where she should be buried.

The Madikizela family in the Eastern Cape says it hopes Madikizela-Mandela receives a funeral without controversy- befitting the contribution she made to South Africa.

Earlier, the Abathembu Royal Kingdom said it was prepared to lay her to rest in Qunu as per their tradition.

Government officials are meeting Tuesday to kickstart the process of arranging her funeral and memorial services.

Prince Madikizela says, “We are worried particularly about the Tembus,  King Sabatha of the Tembus was buried in a wrong place because at that time the mood was bad and then they had to be exhumed and given a proper burial. If Winnie is taken to Qunu or anywhere there what is going to happen to her? That is the question we have. We are just hoping that the Mandela family would be in a position to cooperate with us , we do not want any controversy regarding the burial and she can be buried anywhere the kids want to but we have to endorse that as the family.”
