Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane has described AmaXhosa King Zwelonke Sigcawu as a person who had many good ideas.

Mabuyane met with the king recently.

King Sigcawu died at the Mthatha hospital in the Eastern Cape on Thursday. He was 51 and had been ruling the AmaXhosa nation for more than 14 years.

Mabuyane says he is saddened by the loss.

“Indeed it was very shocking. I just had a meeting with him about two weeks ago, where he brought a delegation discussing developmental issues in the area where he resides. It is quite saddening. We really want to take the opportunity to convey our heartfelt best condolences to the family first. Also to the Kingdom at large, and to all the people of the Eastern Cape. He was one of the very clear kings on any matter that he has got a view on.”

Freedom Front Plus Leader , Pieter Groenewald also sent his party’s condolences to the Sigcawu family.

“The Freedom Front Plus says the moment someone dies in any family, whether you’re a king, whether you’re  a normal citizen, it is very traumatic to your loved ones. Therefore the Freedom Front Plus wants to extend our condolences to the family in this time, and we hope they will find that in the end it is the will of our heavenly father to determine life on earth.”

United Democratic Movement (UDM) Chief Whip, Nqabayomzi Kwankwa also expressed his party’s condolences to the AmaXhosa nation and the Sicgawu family.

“As the United Democratic Movement we would like to express our deepest condolences to the Xhosa nation firstly and the family of King Zwelonke Sicgawu on the passing of his majesty, the untimely death of his majesty. We would like to take this opportunity to say that may his soul rest in eternal peace.” Additional reporting by Bulelani Phillip.
