Limpopo residents protest over chieftainship continues

Police from various policing areas have been deployed to beef up police presence at Sekgopo village outside Tzaneen in Limpopo as a chieftainship protest reaches its third week.

Locals want village chief Kgosikgadi Mokgadi Sekgopo to be replaced by William Matsorwane.

Last week, Premier Stan Mathabata committed to announce who should occupy the throne, as recommended by the Kgatla Commission on Traditional Leadership.

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe has advised motorists travelling between Polokwane and Tzaneen and Polokwane and Giyani to use alternative roads.

“We want to call all people in that area to keep calm and follow due processes to put their complaints. The other thing is that when we open that road they close the other side especially in the early hours of the morning we are therefore taking this opportunity to caution our communities to take extra care whenever they are utilising that road,” says Ngoepe.
