Limpopo land claimants who on Friday received their long awaited title deeds in Polokwane say they will now be able to optimise the productivity of their land.

Land Reform and Rural Development Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane handed over tittle deeds to 33 land owners whose land was restored through government’s land reform program.

She also handed over financial compensation totaling R25 million to seven other claimants, and a tractor to another community.

Johannes Maloba of the Marobala community outside Polokwane says they have submitted business plans to several funders.

“It has been a while, because the land we got it somewhere in 2004 and then we have been waiting… and I think today because we got this tittle deed, I think we will go and develop the land and see how far we will go with this developing of the land. We think of crop farming, livestock as well as game at the farm,” says Maloba.

Minister Nkoana Mashabane says it is important that communities are given title deeds to restore their dignity.

“Today is a very important day  for the people of Limpopo and the respective districts particularly, ordinary citizens that we finally have come this far land because this is one of the most important assert, that as far as we are concerned, that actually make people destitute in their own country,” explains Mashabane.
