Limpopo establishes task team to monitor foot and mouth disease

The Limpopo Health department has established a task team consisting of police and traffic officials to eliminate movement of livestock in the area where the foot and mouth disease has been detected.

The disease was traced to cattle at Sundani village in the Vhembe district and also part of the Mopani district municipality.

The matter has led to the National halting in the export of products from cloven hoof animals such as cattle, goats and pigs

Residents in Sundani village and surrounding areas have been the hardest hit.

The foot and mouth disease was detected in the areas in 2018, with about 400 livestock housed in the village.

The Impact of the foot and mouth disease has created financial constrains for most residents.

Local farmers have expressed shock over the outbreak.

A team of experts has been deployed to attend to the livestock in Sundani.

Livestock movement will be monitored in the surrounding areas.

All residents are encouraged to adhere to the rules during this process of vaccination.
