The MEC of Health in Limpopo Phophi Ramathuba has outlined her department’s state of readiness during the festive season.
Voortrekker Hospital in Mokopane is among the health facilities located closer to the N1 road. This casualty ward is expected to cater for road accident victims during the peak season.
A higher than usual number of vehicles use the N1 in opposite directions.
Paramedics will bring patients to Voortrekker Hospital as well as other hospitals in towns along the N1, some critically injured patients suffering from trauma will be transferred to Polokwane Provincial Hospital.
Thirty three ambulances will be dispatched along hot spots on the road.
MEC Of Health Dr Phophi Ramathuba elaborates: “We have dispatched ambulances on the road and we have a team of senior doctors that will be working.”
Doctors including an orthopaedic surgeon will be on rotation attending to patients.
Motorists have been urged to abide by the law.
