Lilliesleaf gold medallion launched

The South African Gold Coin Exchange has launched the Mandela Liliesleaf 1/2oz gold medallion which showcases one of South Africa’s most influential landmarks: Liliesleaf Farm.

The SA Gold Coin Exchange medallion was auctioned off on Tuesday night at Tintswalo Waterfall Estate. Two of the remaining trialists Andrew Mlangeni and Denis Goldberg attended the function and signed the certificate of the Rivonia 10 gold medallion. The new Rivonia 10 gold medallion with signed certificate sold for R50 000.

The gold medallion features the names of the 10 on one side in the order of the accused – Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu, Goldberg, Govan Mbeki, Ahmed Kathrada, Lionel “Rusty” Bernstein, Raymond Mhlaba, James Kantor, Elias Motsoaledi and Mlangeni. An image of Mandela is on the other side.

Just over R70 000 will be going to the Liliesleaf Bursary fund from items sold at the auction.

Liliesleaf was a farm in Rivonia, Johannesburg that became the meeting place for some of the most prominent freedom fighters.
