Reading Time: < 1 minute

Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane says the Lillian Ngoyi Memorial will be a living museum with a youth and training centre offering leadership development for women amongst others. It will also be an arts and culture site. The Premier was speaking at the unveiling of the memorial site at the Lillian Ngoyi Square in Pretoria central. Seven million rand has already been allocated by the City of Tshwane with the Department of Arts and Culture providing a further R100 million to build the structure. Meanwhile, Gender Equality Deputy Chairperson, Thoko Mpulwana says she remains truly grateful for the toll suffered by all the woman who fought against a system that people thought was impossible to beat. She says the challenges still facing women are inequality, burdens of poverty, economic freedom and access to job opportunities.
