Liberia’s election results expected

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The first official results in Liberia’s landmark presidential election are expected later on Thursday.

The country’s National Electoral Commission has not given exact details on timing. The run-off vote on Tuesday was contested by football hero George Weah and current Vice President Joseph Boakai.

Weah’s camp said on Wednesday that he was set for victory after listening to results announced on radio from the polling stations.

Weah won the first round of voting in October with 38.% of the ballots but failed to win the 50% necessary to avoid a run-off.
