Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi  says more than 13-thousand learners have already been captured on the online registration system for grades one and eight learners for the 2019 academic year.

Lesufi launched the upgraded on-line registration system which seeks to target over 300-thousand learners. He officially switched on the 2019 Admissions Online System, at the Attridgeville Community Hall west of Pretoria on Monday morning .

Lesufi believes applying online will speed up the placement process for learners at various schools across the province. He is confident this will make planning easier for all education stakeholders before the start of the 2019 academic year.

“Well, I’m quite thrilled and happy because it makes planning easy for us. It makes budgeting easy for us because we can got to Treasury and say this is the number of learners  who wants to come to Gauteng unlike when they just come and we have to give them a teacher, text book etc.”

The MEC says he is satisfied with the speed that the upgraded system captures the applications online, which also provides applicants with a list of schools to choose from.

“We’ve upgraded it big time because previously the system would pick three schools for you. Now it’s up to you to pick up those schools. But most importantly we are using the data base of government, municipalities and Home Affairs.”

Some of the parents who came to register for their children say the system is user-friendly and saves them time.

” I thought this system will take longer so 07h00 I was here and it took five minutes. Thank you to the department, keep it up, great job, ” said one parent.

“It is the simplest method as long you’ve all documents, you just sit there and apply and all is done and you get your sms later,” added another satisfied parent.

However, for some it was matter of having to try again next time, as they did not have all the required documents with them.

Meanwhile, applicants have until the 28th of May to apply. Over 300-thousand learners are expected to apply through the on-line system.
