Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi is confident that his province will record the highest number of matric passes when the National Senior Certificate results are announced on Thursday evening.

Gauteng obtained a matric pass rate of 85.1 %, coming second to the Western Cape which topped all the provinces with a pass rate of 85.9% in 2016.

Lesufi says he expects Gauteng learners to perform well especially those from townships where a lot of investment has been made.

“So our close eye will be looking at areas like Soweto, Tembisa, Hammanskraal, Kathorus and the West Rand the farming area within West Rand that’s where we’ve invested lots and lots of resources. And I can assure you I expect them to perform very well because the investment we have put there it was huge and is something that must yield returns in investment,” says Lesufi.
