Lesufi calls for non-racialism in schools

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has called on School Governing Bodies to ensure non-racialism at schools across the province. He says racism will not be tolerated at any school.

The province has been rocked by a number of racism related incidents including the recent Hoerskool Overvaal incident. The school won a court case after insisting it could not accommodate English speaking learners.

Lesufi has addressed thousands of outgoing SGB members.

“I still carry a scar of what has happened at one of our schools there in the Vaal called Hoerskool Overvaal. I must not, at no particular stage find myself on the opposite sides with my SGBs in the middle of a court. We must persuade each other. We must find a solution that will be in the best interest of our children. Let’s find a mechanism to resolve challenges that will promote non-racialism. There is no single language that is above all other languages; all languages are equal in this country.”
