Lesotho taxi operators continue to block border post

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Lesotho taxi operators are accusing South African police officials of having financial interests in the taxi industry.

Hundreds of motorists are stranded on both the South African and Lesotho side of Maseru border after taxi operators blockaded the border post with their taxis.

Some motorists have even opted to turn back and use alternative border posts. About 400 pedestrians crossed from Lesotho into South Africa.

Motorists on the other hand remain uncertain about when exactly they will be able to reach their destinations after the festive season break.

The operators say arrests and impounding of their taxis by South African Police Service members are illegitimate.

This follows a cross border transport agreement between the ministers of transport of the two countries signed recently.
