Leaked Eskom report could affect committee’s recommendations

The Chairperson of the Public Enterprises Committee, Zukiswa Rantho, says the leak of Parliament’s report on its inquiry into Eskom could affect the committee’s recommendations.

The leaked preliminary report into Eskom has reportedly named Home Affairs Minister, Malusi Gigaba, and former public enterprises minister, Lynne Brown, among 44 people and 25 companies who should be criminally investigated over alleged mismanagement and corruption at the utility.

Rantho says the committee is yet to finalize its report after spending five months probing officials.

“Some of the former and present ministers that are being implicated should be investigated. In our recommendations in the report, it speaks to the criminal investigations that must take place. It is a long process and maybe the process can be affected by what happened with the leak.”

“The report is not supposed to go to the National Assembly right now; it is supposed to go to all those and the companies that are being implicated. Then after we give them some time to look at it, we then took a resolution to give them 14 days. After the 14 days we will go back to the committee meeting and adopt the report and go and present it in parliament,” explains portfolio committee chairperson.
