Le Court and Julius win 100 challenge cycle

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Kim le Court of Team Demacon-Max Wax defended her 100 Cycle Challenge title in the women’s race that took place in Germiston, East of Johannesburg on Sunday.

The race, only in its second year running, had the start and finish lines situated right next to the Germiston Lake and boasted a strong field with the likes of Maroesjka Matthee and Joanna van de Winkel who came second and third place respectively.

Le Court was delighted to bag her first win of the year.

In the men’s race, last year’s runner-up Jayde Julius riding for Pro Touch outsprinted Steven van Heerden and last year’s champion Nolan Hoffman to take his first title.

He raced through 130km at a time of 2h 52 mins 17 secs. Julius says he had unfinished business from last year.

The event was set against the backdrop of the scenic Germiston Lake and race organisers ensured the event will surely get tongues wagging. Rego Mavimbela from the City of Ekurhuleni has more.

Moreover, the 100 Cycle Challenge was graded a UCI event for the elite men’s race (category 1.2 one-day class 2) covering a distance of 130km.

Cycling South Africa General Manager Mike Bradley has more on why they sanctioned the race.
