Reading Time: 2 minutes

Family and friends of Chad le Clos had another reason to celebrate – this time SA’s new golden boy of swimming walked off with a silver medal. Chad’s sister Bianca Matos says: “I want to have him when he’s back. My parents had him while in London – now I’m having him when his back.” Judging by the number of people gathered at a local sports club – the Le Clos Fan Club is growing. There were tense moments before the race – all eyes glued to the big screen. The sports club was packed with family and friends to watch Le Clos’ 100 metre butterfly race. There was great expectation of another gold medal, but his second place silver was good enough for all his fans. The race was won by American legend Michael Phelps, who won his 21st Olympic medal. Le Clos was lying 5th at the turn and was too far back to catch Phelps, but did manage to pass the rest of the field. He touched the wall in a dead tie with Russian Evgeny Korotyshkin. The 20-year-old Le Clos has become a major star at these Olympics and is still trying to grasp the meaning of his success.
