Law authorities raid Gupta’s Saxonwold compound

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Law enforcement agencies have raided the Gupta’s Saxonwold compound as part of moves to seize assets from those implicated in the Vrede Dairy Farm case.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says it obtained a restraint order at the Bloemfontein High Court last week, amounting to more than R250-million against the assets of several individuals and entities implicated in theft, fraud and money laundering.

The assets forming part of the order include property, aircraft, vehicles and bank accounts belonging to entities including Oakbay Investments and Sahara Computers.

The lawyer that is representing the Gupta family did not allow law enforcement authorities to gain access into the property up until there was intervention. Eventually SARS and the Asset Forfeiture Unit officials were able to access the property.

There are unconfirmed reports that both officials from SARS and the Asset Forfeiture Unit are there to attach some of the assets that belong to the Gupta family as well as documents that are critical in their investigations.
