South African Airways (SAA) has cancelled flights between New York and Johannesburg due to the effects of bad weather.  A storm that has hit the US has caused congestion at the JFK airport.

The Eastern United States has been slammed by the massive winter storm since early Thursday morning.

SAA spokesperson Tlali Tlali says they are dealing with a very difficult situation, where they have to cancel flights, leaving passengers stranded.

He says there are travelling arrangements for passengers that include rebooking and rerouting.

“We will make a means to refund customers and try to minimize the inconvenience to our travellers, presenting options to them. We will also upgrade our aircraft to accommodate the travellers that are stranded in the United States,” says Tlali.

A monster “Bomb Cyclone” storm that battered the United States’ East Coast is creating economic hardships.  The Eastern United States is experiencing record-breaking low temperatures following a powerful blizzard.  Weather forecasters said temperatures in New York reached an all-time low.

They added that wind chills could make it feel as cold as minus-42 degrees Celsius in parts of the country.  The so-called ‘Bomb Cyclone’ winter storm wreaked havoc in the region during the last three days, killing at least 22 people.

It brought with it heavy snowfall, giant waves and flooding.
