Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi says they are investigating circumstances surrounding the resignation of a former principal accused of engaging in sexual acts with learners at a high school on Gauteng’s East Rand. The school is not named to protect the children involved.
Photos making rounds on social media show the former headmaster engaged in sexual acts with learners inside what looks like a school office.
One of the learners is wearing school uniform. The former principal resigned in October last year.
On Monday morning parents of learners at the school marched to the school and handed over a memorandum of demands.
Lesufi says they want to get to the bottom of the matter. “We also requested our human resource team and labour relations unit just to go through the resignation process of the principal to determine whether he was running away from this bad thing or indeed it was a genuine resignation. So the team is working on this thing and we are also working with the police to find a mechanism of opening a case because if we can allow this thing to go on like this we would have failed the victims.”
