R50 million set aside to reinforce security at Mozambique border

About R50 million has been set aside to build a barrier to reinforce security at the South Africa and Mozambique border in Umhlabuyalingana area, northern KwaZulu-Natal.

This was announced by Police Minister Fikile Mbalula in Manguzi on Friday afternoon.

The move to tighten security at the border comes after protests by community members against the escalation of cross border crime.

Mbalula assured them that government was in the process of signing an extradition agreement with Mozambique. The Minister of Police has assured the community of Manguzi that government is working around the clock to curb cross border crime.

Mbalula said police are aiming to arrest the masterminds behind cross border syndicates.
