North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo has announced that his government will heed the call made by President Cyril Ramaphosa and root out corruption and excessive expenditure in the province.

Mahumapelo was delivering his State of the Province Address, in Marikana.

He says a lifestyle audit will be conducted on all public representatives including himself and all former Premiers in the North West.

Mahumapelo added that in the next two weeks, he will launch a lifestyle audit on all former and current members of the provincial legislature.

“We are resolute in supporting President Ramaphosa, we are going to launch a process of lifestyle audit for all public representatives starting with the premier and his executive and all former premiers and members of executives who have served before,” says Mahumapelo.

Mahumapelo says their fight against corruption in the province will focus on the corruption allegations against the Department of Public Works. 150 companies are said to have benefited from corrupt deals with the department. Mahumapelo suggests that the current investigations by Special Investigating Unit (SIU)  will also look at former MEC’s and HoD’s that presided over corrupt activities.

He says his government will continue to address challenges of gender parity in all sectors of government.

“We also realised in that the number of women represented, when we came in in 2014 that the number of women represented at the top, was very low so we took a decision that push the agenda of building a none sexiest SA, ad we are happy that 50 % of Heads of Department is women, this include Director General of the province.”
