Communications Minister Mamoloko Kubayi says she has asked the board of the SABC to ensure that the strike by workers does not continue.
She says the strike and instability it portrays will make it difficult to negotiate possible funding for the organisation. Workers belonging to trade union Bemawu embarked on a strike Friday morning after the board indicated that there would be no salary increases this year.
Kubayi says the issues raised by workers are legitimate but she has urged both parties to negotiate.
“Both parties have to be cognisant of the reality of what is happening in terms of the financial status and I understand why the board would be reluctant to agree to an increase when the financials are not Ok. I’ve been kept abreast if there is any disruption, there have been reports of people toyi-toying inside and outside but we’ve not had any disruption,” says Kubayi.
