Reading Time: 2 minutes

The remains of struggle stalwart, Moses Kotane, and the funeral procession have moved from his home to the Pella stadium near Rustenburg, North West.

President Jacob Zuma is expected to give a special address at the venue honouring the trade union activist, South African Communist Party leader and ANC stalwart.

Dignitaries including North West premier, Supra Mahumapelo and ANC secretary general, Gwede Mantashe, are attending the reburial of Kotane. His remains were repatriated from Russia about two weeks ago.

Minister in the Presidency, Jeff Radebe, says Kotane’s contribution to the struggle for freedom and his understanding of the revolution is incalculable.

“The ANC of today is what made Moses Kotane to be the greatest human being. His contribution to the struggle for freedom, his theoretical understanding of the revolution is incalculable. At last he is back into the land of his own ancestors where we are going to be bidding him farewell to join other leaders of the movement in the world beyond,” says Radebe.

Members of the Kotane family say the long awaited return of his remains has brought them closure after 90 years of absences. They also say they are happy that his remains are back home.
