Kite flyers gather for Eden Kite Festival

Kite flyers from across the world have gathered on the Garden Route for the fifth Eden Kite Festival. The event is being held in Sedgefield, George and Knysna.

Organisers say it benefits local charities working with underprivileged children. Proceeds will be used to buy stationery, clothing, toiletries and pay for transport to school.

Founder of the festival, Keith Mould, says the event is also aimed at promoting outdoor family activities.

“In kite flying internationally we have this ethos called “one sky, one world”.  When you look up at a kite, you can’t see who is flying it.  You don’t know their religion, their colour, whether they’re able or disabled or anything.  So it’s a great leveler and the other side of it is, it is healthy, people come here; they look up at the sky, not down on their screen.”
