The Isuzu Southern Kings Board have refuted media reports that former Springbok coach, Pieter de Villiers doesn’t have the required qualification for the franchise’s head coach position.

The vacant position requires for candidates to acquire World Rugby Level 3 qualification and the successful candidate will coach Isuzu Southern Kings in the Guiness Pro 14 competition.

The board has described the widespread media reports as inaccurate speculation that is baseless. It says the process of appointing a head coach is in order and confidential. The position became vacant after Deon Davids was fired due to a string of poor results in the Guinness Pro 14 competition.

De Villiers is one of the candidates interviewed to take over the Port Elizabeth-based outfit. De Villliers is highly respected as a rugby coach in South Africa and abroad.
