Killings of ANC leaders in KZN are due to criminality: EFF

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Economic Freedom Fighters rejected suggestions that a third force was behind the violence which led to the killing of politicians in KwaZulu-Natal.

The party was testifying before the Moerane Commission of Inquiry probing the causes.

Chilling testimony by EFF members of pain and suffering at the hands of the ANC, the party detailed how their followers were attacked by ANC supporters.

The members highlighted incidents of harassment from not being allowed to use public facilities for meetings and threats of destroying party property.

But the party testified that killings of ANC leaders were due to criminality as factions within the party battle for control of government tenders.

EFF National spokesperson Mbuyiseni Dlozi says: “There are no politicis here they are killing each other the same way a thug would come to your house and kill you for your cell phone. To brand it political is to almost suspend a due political police investigation that must take place.”

The EFF also rejected ANC testimony to the commission that a third force was behind the killings.

EFF’s Hlengiwe Makhalipha says: “The only third force is the ANC, during the fees must fall campaign the ANC infiltrated the fees must fall, they were paying other students who were pretending as if they were leading the fees must fall campaign but they were exposed.”

The commission has adjourned until Monday when Stats South Africa will take the stand.
