Khoisan women pay tribute to Baartman

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Jackson Drift Khoisan women’s organisation has paid tribute Sarah Baartman at the Women’s Day celebrations at the Union Buildings in Pretoria. The organisations’ Keelin Matthyse said, “Oh my child don’t cry. Your mother Sarah has returned. Returned to the soul of Africa. Strangers have removed you, mocked you, and belittled you.” Matthyse says: They took away your liberty, your dignity, but luckily not your soul. Mama Sarah daughter of the soul. We the Khoisan women call for the liberation and restoration of our pride.” Meanwhile, hundreds of women, in an enactment of the 1956 women’s march, are marching from the Lillian Ngoyi Square to the Union buildings where President Jacob Zuma is expected to give an address. Artist like Chomee and Cultural artists are entertaining the crowds before the President arrives.
