Nine people, including a three-year-old child, have been injured after a building collapsed on Pixley Ka Seme Street, formerly known as West Street, in Durban.

Rescue Care Spokesperson Garrith Jamieson says the people were inside a salon when the first floor of the building collapsed on them.

Jamieson says more people are still trapped inside.

“Rescue care paramedics are on the scene after a structure collapsed on West Street just after Warwick Avenue where the first floor of a building collapsed into a salon and rescuers are now trying to gain access into the building to free the remainder trapped people. All medic personnel are on attendance and Durban Fire and SAPS and Metro Police search and rescue.”
