Eleven suspects have been arrested in a Crime Prevention Operation by the City of Johannesburg.

Two hijacked buildings in Hillbrow and Berea were raided on Thursday.

Five people believed to be illegally in the country were taken into custody.

Six other suspects, whom city officials say are wanted for various crimes, were also arrested during the operation.

They’ve been detained at the Hillbrow Police Station.

City of Johannesburg spokesperson Luyanda Mfeka says, “The primary focus of these Crime Prevention Operations is to make sure that we keep communities in the City of Johannesburg as safe as humanly possible. The ultimate message we want to send to these criminals is that there is no place for them to hide within the city and we will do all we can to ensure that we stop their activities.”
