Justice Zondo to clarify state capture commission

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Chairperson of the Commission of Inquiry into allegations of state capture, Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo will answer questions about the commission on Tuesday.

President Jacob Zuma announced the establishment of the Commission of Inquiry into allegations of State Capture and the appointment of Deputy Chief Justice Zondo as its chairperson on January 9.

This after the High Court in Pretoria found that Zuma must institute the commission within 30 days, and that remedial action recommended by former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela was wise, necessary, rational and appropriate.

State of Capture has dominated debates in society and the ANC’s December Conference, January 8 commemorations as well as the NEC and Lekgotla meetings last week.

One of the key issues that have dominated the Commission of Inquiry debate has been the terms of reference. As Deputy Chief Justice Zondo answers what he calls clarity-seeking questions on the matter, the terms of reference may be a big part of the agenda.
