Jordaan warns against ill-discipline in Bafana camp

Reading Time: 2 minutes

South African Football Association president Danny Jordaan says ill-discipline will not be tolerated in the Bafana Bafana camp leading up to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt.

Jordaan was responding to an incident that happened in the Bafana Bafana camp at the Cosafa Cup tournament in Durban earlier this week, which led to the expulsion of striker Phakamani Mahlambi.

The senior Bafana Bafana squad will assemble in Johannesburg on Sunday to prepare for the Afcon tournament.

Mamelodi Sundowns’ forward Phakamani Mahlambi’s hopes of going to the Afcon tournament were dashed after he was expelled from the Bafana Bafana camp for ill-discipline.

His place was taken by 20-year-old Gift Links of Cape Town City.

Some of the younger players in the COSAFA Cup squad this week, stand a chance of being included in the Afcon bound squad.

The Bafana Bafana coach at the Cosafa Cup David Notoane says the boys are now focused and cannot wait to kick start their tournament in the quarter-final against Botswana on Sunday.

SABC Sport has since learnt that French-based Bafana Bafana attacker Keagan Dolly got injured in training on Friday morning and has been ruled out of the Cosafa Cup.

Dolly was preparing to be part of the Bafana team to play Botswana in the Cosafa Cup quarterfinals on Sunday at the Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu.

This latest injury also throws in doubt his chances of going to the Afcon tournament in Egypt next month (21 June-19 July), he was going to use this tournament to work on his match fitness.

Dolly has been battling with injuries this season and last played for his club Montpellier GSC in the French Ligue 1 in September last year.

Dolly will be replaced by Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Keletso Makgalwa.

The quarter final matches kick-off on Saturday, with defending champions Zimbabwe taking on this year’s surprise package Comoros.

In Sunday’s double header South Africa will face Botswana, and Zambia take on Malawi.
