Approximately 400 drunk drivers have been arrested in Johannesburg as officials employ a zero-tolerance approach this festive season.
The Johannesburg Metro Police Department says most motorists are spending Christmas and the day of Good Will behind bars.
Johannesburg metro police’s Edna Mamonyane says, “I can confirm that from this past weekend we have arrested a number of people for speeding. They arrested a number of people for drinking and driving. Yesterday (Monday) my specialised unit only yesterday’s number was 395 drunk drivers but there has been a whole lot of other people. Speed is a contributing factor for arrests in the city of JHB and another thing I just want to say the citizens of the city should bear with us and the drivers we are out here in the streets and we are trying to make everybody safe.”
