The family of Tommy Ditshele, a street vendor allegedly killed by police, say they’ve received no support from police.

The 30-year-old died on Friday at a park, near the Soshanguve police station, north of Pretoria.

He was selling pirated CDs.

The niece of Tommy Ditshele, Molemane Ditshele says she allegedly died at the hands of police on Friday.

Molemane shared the last moments she had with her late uncle. “He was in my bedroom eating and he was telling me about how police harass them when they sell pirated CD’s at the intersection. He told me a lot of things because I was quiet close to him,” says his niece, Molemane Ditshele.

Her uncle Tommy Ditshele died shortly after being accosted by the police. This enraged the community who attacked the local police station, burning down a guard house inside the premises of the station.

Police watchdog, Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID ) is investigating.  “There will be a scene reconstruction or at least an investigation at the scene by investigators so that they understand what happened,” says IPID’s Moses Dlamini.
