SANParks will celebrate International Rangers Day at the Kruger Gate near Skukuza in the Kruger National Park on Wednesday.

The day will be celebrated under the theme – Conserving For the Future.

It will honour rangers who have been killed or wounded in the line of duty.

Environmental Affairs Minister, Barbara Creecy, is expected to be among the dignitaries.

According to the World Wildlife Fund since 2009 close to 900 field rangers worldwide have lost their lives in the line of duty.

About a year ago, Respect Mathebula, was the first ranger to be killed by poachers in the Kruger Park in more than 50-years.
