Institute for Security Studies clarifies UK’s terrorism warning

The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) says the possible terrorism warning by the British government to its citizens traveling to South Africa is not a travel ban.

A man and a woman from KwaZulu-Natal have been remanded in custody for allegedly kidnapping two SA-British nationals. The Hawks say they do not have evidence that the couple accused of terrorism by the United Kingdom government has connections to international terror group, ISIS.

“One thing to clarify is that it is not a travel ban to South Africa. It’s really a precautionary warning to British citizens in South Africa. Warning them to be extra cautious when they are in crowded places including markets or shopping malls. Where they believe that there could be an attack. A tourist attack or kidnapping like we have just seen recently,” said the ISS’ Martin Ewi.
